Sorry

I've had hubby at the ER with blood sugar levels into the 'scary dangerous' level (yes, he's diabetic been diagnosed about 6 years) and there is a lot of emotion going on with that (it's a long story, but I'm completely emotionally exhausted) and this week is the big push before clinicals and I haven't been able to spend the time studying that I should. I have a med-surg test tomorrow covering 11 chapters.

So, that's why I've missed a few days with pictures. I don't want you guys to give up on me though, I do appreciate the comments and have enjoyed 365'ing with everyone. I'm hoping that tomorrow I'll be back with my camera.

Sleep tight

The Scientist has a lot of problems sleeping, so many that we had to put him on medication to get more than 2 hours of sleep/night. He did great for about 6 months and we've recently had to readjust his meds.

I tell you that so that you can appreciate how wonderful of a picture this is for me. Yes, I know I did sleeping kid pictures earlier, but this one means more.

Just some mug shots.

Stepped outside with The Investigator quickly so I could get my shots before the sun went down and I was left struggling with poor light. Nothing too wonderful today. Poses are all her, high key look came from all the snow we STILL have.

The things that matter most

The first week of class one of our instructors was talking to us about prioritizing our life, especially the next 3 semesters of school. He mentioned he frequently thinks to himself "don't let the things that matter least get in the way of the things that matter the most"

I attempted to do this as a self-family portrait but it didn't work (those are my texts for this semester in the background being ignored.) I don't have a wide enough lens that lets in enough light for my livingroom so I'm going to have to revisit this one. I did feel it very fitting explanation for why I didn't post over the weekend (I worked long, busy shifts on the ambulance and spent my time home with the kids)

Old school (all about me)

Yes, I've actually used this camera. I love old camera equipment. Cameras, enlargers, lenses, or whatever. I think of this as a beginning of a collection, albeit a slow growing collection.

Primping and preening

Part of daily life in this house. I'm so not prepared for The Boss to not be a little girl, but she's quickly growing up. I would have prefered a shallower DOF, but I was as wide open as my kit lens will let me and I needed the short lens in my tiny bathroom.

All about me (5/100 I think)

I'm enjoying my lightbox, and I don't think I'd mind doing some product photography. If I get better I may try getting creative and doing some stock images.

Anyways, here is today's all about me.

Haircut

See, I told you I'd make yesterday up soon :)

Somehow my ISO got bumped up to 1600 (WTH?!?) so the haircut series of picts was very grainy and overall I don't like them (Great Clips is a very busy place, I think next time they need a haircut and I"m doing pictures I'm going to find a Mom and Pop place) The Baby didn't care for her bangs being pulled down over her eyes either and she sat with this look on her face the whole time.

Yeah, I skipped a day

I'm still in a bit of a funk and Crossing Jordan was on last night. I didn't feel like coming back to my camera that late so I went to bed. One of these days I'll post 2 pictures to make up for it.

Here is The Boss, waiting for her siblings to finish getting their haircut today. Yeah, people thought I was odd for shooting in Great Clips especially when it wasn't of the kids who were getting cuts (I do have some of the haircuts though)

Just a picture

Feeling kind of down tonight so all you are getting is the picture. I had hoped to get something I could do a moody feel with, but we ran all day long so I don't have much to choose from.

My arm for a macro lens today

It's a lot colder now than it normally is when it snows and all of the flakes that were coming down still looked like snowflakes. My neighbor knocked on my door early asking how to get pictures (I'd already taken what I'd planned on for today) so I grabbed my shoes, camera and headed over.

Gnome on the roam (all about me)

I attempted to describe why this is about me, and decided that those of you who don't know wouldn't get it no matter much I explained. So, no explanation.

Stripey socks! (all about me)

I don't like my shadow, I think I had my reflector (aka whiteboard) placed wrong, but it's hard with a self portrait. Even if the self portrait is of your feet.

Ok, so I was getting bugged by the wrinkles, I pulled out my plexi and did my process a little different. Still jeans, still stripey socks, still me.

Ready and waiting for the morning rush

Today was insanely busy, and I know there is a lot more craziness to come. I think what nearly did me in today is that Paul is sick, and nothing is quite so time consuming as a sick husband.

This fits with the all about me series btw, as you can tell school is important in our family. The only person not in school currently is The Baby and she is only 3 and is an education oriented daycare (they don't push school, but their day is structured much like a preschool)

Sorry to sidetrack.

Here we go, minus The Baby's backpack because it's hanging up in her room.

I converted to black and white because the colors didn't mesh well at all.

All about me (1 out of 100)

Someone (I am horrible at remember names and who, blogs are no exception) has 100 things about them on their blog. I thought it would be fun to shoot 100 things about me throughout the year, after all it's not like I don't have enough days.

So, partially because school started back up today and I had my steth handy and partially because I didn't get anything shot before I ran out of light here is my first about me. I need another light for my lightbox I don't like my shadows on this one, but I was already using the only desk lamp we have.

Ok, once again Opanda isn't pulling up my exif info. I don't know what's up with that.

What not to do

I love shooting in the snow. I know how far to compensate, I know what to expect.

However, snow with bright sun? Not so much. I got bad underlighting from the reflection leaving dark eyes.

So, next time I'll wait until I have the shade of the house. I'll also not give her a cream colored hat when we are shooting in white. (I'll be right back with my exif info)

Or not, I can't pull it up for some reason today. 50 mm, ap around 2, exposure comp +1

Perspective

A photo a day? Or one subject a day? I took a couple of M today and I can't decide which one to share. He's hard to get posed shots from, but my very favorite pictures are of him (fixing the bike and crying before we make the trip to the children's hospital again) He also converts to black and white very nicely.

I originally went outside to use the shade of the house and the snow get a blow out background high key look, but then I got his typical smile and decided I'd let him be him.

365 Project

It sounds simple enough, a picture a day for a year. I know the challenge for me is going to come when school pressure starts building. May 365 will help me keep some balance in my life.

I realize the obvious is that it isn't the first of the year anymore and I'm already starting out behind but I don't care. I'm starting today and moving forward.

This is Rusty, the about 2 year old Cocker who we got for the kids for Christmas. Yup, the kids. Not for me, at all. He's completely loveable and adorable if he'd just learn not to run away.
